Just For Today

Today has been one of those days and it’s not even noon. Actually, today started for me at 2:30am with a toilet leaking. Yesterday, I got some disappointing news about a trip I was looking forward to being canceled. As, I laid back down in my bed around 4:00am my heart was racing and my thoughts seemed to be keeping pace. I spent the next half hour calming myself back down. Grounding myself. I thought today, just for today, I would share my grounding practice with you.

I begin by noticing my breath. I take note of my physical state. Is my breath tight and shallow? I begin to take a few deep breaths, until I can calm my physiology. Sometimes its three breaths, and sometimes it’s thirty minutes. Once I am present I remind myself that right now in this very moment everything is okay. It’s important to break the cycle of worrying about the future or reliving the past. I allow myself this time and space by telling myself that this is just for today. Just for this moment, maybe even just for this breath.

This practice has brought me so much grounding, even in very difficult moments. I hope that it will help you. Now that you have read this, take a moment to take a deep breath. Allow yourself a moment to feel grounded, knowing that just for today you are okay.

Love and light,

Erin
