I tend to be pretty goal oriented. I write out my goals every year and then actually map out how to accomplish them, devoting set amounts of time to each goal. It’s pretty OCD, but honestly, it’s served me better than most other habits that I have. I think our culture is obsessed with results. How successful you are is measured in the outcome, but that all seems very empty to me and certainly doesn’t define how I view other’s success.
The people I admire the most are living in the present moment, fully engaged and aware. They are detached from the product and committed to the process. I reached out to a few of these beautiful people that I admire and asked them about this. Interestingly, they all said very similar things. All of them felt that the process was the juicy part (my word, not theirs, but same idea). The process is the magic. It’s where you can discover and grow. They also noted that they don’t hold onto the past or yearn for the future. They all seemed incredibly content in the process. I admire this level of detachment. No ranking, judging, or wishing the current situation was different. Accepting that things are as they should be and willing to learn and grow in the midst of the process. Swoon!
But, how can someone like me cultivate this goodness in my day to day life? It takes a lot of courage to accept things as they are. I found a quote that has been my inspiration lately:
AUDENTIS FORTUNA IUVAT which is Latin for FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE (Virgil)
Obviously, this present moment living is easier when things are going well. Suffering seems almost impossible to sit in, but the process oriented life is one that accepts both the good and bad with equanimity. When we aren’t attached to the results we can accept things as they are with bravery and acceptance.
Maybe, you too are seeking the product. The job, the house, the family, etc. I want to encourage us all to enjoy the process. To live fully in the present moment as it is and to find the magic here. You are magic! Remember there is no one else in the Universe that is on your journey. Enjoy this beautiful life you gorgeous soul.
Love~Erin
You are a wise encourager, and I love this. I even like the quote in Latin. Audentis sounds to me like audacious❤️
