Wednesday Wisdom

Hello lovelies. I am a few weeks into my yoga teacher training and my heart is on fire. I am basically a walking billboard for yoga right now. If you need someone to tell you to try yoga, I’m here. Try yoga.

But, I wanted to come on here and give you some wisdom. There has been a consistent theme when I tell people about my yoga practice. Almost everyone tells me why they CAN’T do yoga. It’s usually something about their body. That they are not flexible, or they can’t touch their toes, etc. The reasons are usually unique, but they are all about their body. I’ve been wrestling with how to respond. Today, it just hit me, so I’m here to tell you something important, whether you ever try yoga or not, I really want you to hear this.

The problem isn’t your body. The problem is what you think of it and what you think of yourself.

If you are reading this, you are breathing, and if you are breathing you can do yoga. You can do lots of things. Your body is amazing.

The first yoga class I went to I cried almost the entire class. I hadn’t heard someone speak that kindly to me in the longest time. I certainly didn’t talk to myself that way. My teacher said, “It took a lot of courage to come here today, to step on your mat.” That was it. It changed my life. It did take courage. It takes courage every time. I’ve gotten braver, and I’m loving myself in new and radical ways. Yoga helped me be still, it helped me remember who I am and how much I love my body. Off the mat it helps me to breathe and to give myself grace and love.

If I ever share anything with anyone I hope it the space to love yourself and to love your body, mind, and soul. You deserve to love yourself. You are enough. You are doing the best that you can, we all are. Start today, right now. Love yourself the way you want others to love you. I am giving you permission. You are lovely, even if you can’t touch your toes!

All my love~ Erin
