Back to School

It’s the beginning of another school year, or as I like to refer to it, a Fortnite break.  I’m kidding, sort of.  This seemed to be the Summer of Fortnite.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about you probably don’t have boys in your house.

My boys have been obsessed with the game.  According to the website, “Fornite Battle Royale is the FREE 100 player PvP (whatever that is?) mode in Fortnite.  One giant map.  A battle bus.  Fortnite building skills and destructible environments combined with intense PvP combat.  The last one standing wins.”  I don’t get it.  I will add this to the things I cannot understand about kids today.

I know I am officially old because I just cannot get it.  I can’t get Fortnite.  I can’t get Snapchat.  My aging brain won’t let me understand.   Now that school is starting back, I truly think I will look back on this Summer and remember that this was the year my children’s brains turned to mush.

Needless to say, we were not prepared for this new Season.  We were not going to bed early, and reading all the books.  We got smacked right in the face when the alarm went off at 6:15am on Monday morning.

While I love, love, love Summer.  I am ready for a new routine.  I am ready for a new Season.  I went to yoga yesterday, because I finally had an hour to myself, and my teacher was discussing this new Season.  This new opportunity to live with intention.  To create something new.  I love that!

So, yes, my Summer did not exactly go as planned.  My kids played entirely too many video games, and ate junk food, and stayed up way too late, and slept half the day away.  It was not my finest parenting.  But, today they are at school.  Today is a new day.  A new Season.  My intention for this time is to create, and inspire, and love.  Will I be perfect?  Looking at my track record, I’m going to confidently say, no.  But, I will begin again.  I hope you are entering this new Season with all the love and a little less Fortnite.
